The much loved 90s classic that always provokes the same response “I never knew that was directed by a woman!” Penelope Spheeris steers the legendary comic duo of Wayne Campbell (Mike Meyers) and Garth Algar (Dana Carvey) through a rock n roll adventure to save their public-access television show form the corporate clutches of Benjamin Kane (Rob Lowe) Benjamin also has designs on Cassandra, (Tia Carrere) the true rock n roll bad-ass of the story.

Wayne’s World remains the highest-grossing film to come out of the Saturday Night Live universe. We look forward to a collective chorus of Bohemian Rhapsody ringing through the pines.

PENELOPE SPHEERIS

As a child Penelope Spheeris lived with her family in different trailer parks throughout southern California. Working as a waitress, she put herself through film school. She worked as a film editor and a cinematographer before forming her own company in 1974. ROCK ‘N REEL was the first Los Angeles production company specializing in music videos. She produced, directed, and edited videos for major bands through the Seventies and Eighties, concluding her music video work with the Bohemian Rhapsody video for WAYNE’S WORLD.

The filmmaker behind the groundbreaking cult documentary trilogy The Decline of Western Civilization (1979-1997)—a visceral, record of Los Angeles’ evolving music subcultures, Spheeris is also the director of landmark Hollywood comedies, including Wayne’s World (1992) and The Beverly Hillbillies (1993).  Her studio output has sometimes obscured just how pioneering, and radical the other side of her career has been. Her early features including Suburbia (1983) and Dudes (1987 capture the alienation and defiance of communities at the margins of American society, and have a wild time doing it.

TIA CARRERE

Born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, Tia Carrere is an actress working in motion pictures and television as well as a two time Grammy award-winning musical artist.

She was discovered in a grocery store that led to her first role in Aloha Summer, before appearing in numerous blockbusters including “Wayne’s World 1 & 2”, “True Lies” opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger, and “Rising Sun” with Sean Connery. Tia also voiced the character of Nani in Disney’s classic animated film and tv series “Lilo & Stitch”. Tia shares two Grammy awards for albums consisting of original Hawaiian language compositions.
