For more than three decades, the Grammy, Golden Globe & Emmy award winning songwriter Diane Warren has composed countless hit songs, however, she not only made a tremendous impact in the pop world, she also contributed to countless movies such as Mannequin, Armageddon, Pearl Harbor, Coyote Ugly and most recently A Star is Born and RBG, for which she received her 10th Oscar nomination. 

Diane will be in conversation with Lesley Barber, the highly acclaimed film composer whose credits
include Manchester by the Sea and most recently Late Night. 

The two will be looking back at iconic moments in their careers and exploring the art
of making music for film.

DIANE WARREN

Diane Warren is considered to be among the most prolific and successful contemporary songwriters of our time. A quick glance at her list of Top Ten hits reveals a range of iconic songs so diverse it’s difficult to believe they could have come from the same person. Diane’s songs are featured in more than 60 films, for which she has received an astounding 10 Oscar Nominations.

Diane Warren has written for such legends as Elton John, Tina Turner, Barbra Streisand, Aretha Franklin, Roberta Flack and Roy Orbison. Artists such as Lady Gaga, Cher, Patti LaBelle, ‘N Sync, Gloria Estefan, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Beyonce, Whitney Houston, Aerosmith, Celine Dion, and Mary J. Blige.

Warren has been named ASCAP Songwriter of the Year six times and Billboard’s Songwriter of the Year four times. Her publishing company Realsongs, was named one of the top five music publishing corporations and is the most successful female-owned and operated business in the music industry. In 2001, Warren also received further recognition with a coveted star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

LESLEY BARBER

Film composer Lesley Barber writes music marked by intelligence and emotional depth. She has scored a string of award-winning and highly acclaimed projects, most notably Manchester by the Sea. A multi-instrumentalist, conductor and pianist, Lesley’s interest in modern electronic programming, loops, and effects adds dimension to her work, creating hybrid atmospheric scores with lush orchestration with an innate ability to bring the essential to light and avoid the cliché.

Lesley’s recent films include American Woman, Irreplaceable You, Nappily Ever After directed by Haifaa al-Mansour’, and Late Night, directed by Nisha Ganatra and starring Emma Thompson and Mindy Kaling. She’s currently working with Kaling again on the forthcoming Four Weddings and a Funeral.

Lesley is a proud and active member of the Alliance for Women Film Composers, which has taken a leading role in the much-publicized diversity conversation now occurring in Hollywood.
