Feat: Karah Preiss with Claire Evans

The Rustic Theatre
Sunday 22nd, September
4.30 – 5.30pm

Belletrist is an online platform created by friends Emma Roberts and Karah Preiss that celebrates great books and the people who read them, reminding us, we cannot live by screen alone! Karah will be in conversation with Claire Evans about her book BROAD BAND, the history of the women who made the internet.

Karah Preiss is a content producer based in New York City. In 2017, she founded Belletrist, a social media-first community for book lovers, with actress Emma Roberts. Through Belletrist, Karah and Emma are on a mission to promote reading as an accessible and unique form of self-care. Prior to Belletrist, Karah was a science & tech reporter at The Huffington Post and hosted the short form series Talk Nerdy To Me. In the year 2000, Karah went to Space Camp and, in a lot of ways, she never came back.

Claire L. Evans is a writer and musician. She is the singer and coauthor of the pop group YACHT, the founding editor of Terraform, VICE’s original science-fiction vertical, and the author of the feminist computing history Broad Band: The Untold Story of the Women who Made the Internet, published by Penguin Random House in 2018.

She is the former Futures Editor of Motherboard, and a contributor to AIGA Eye on Design, the Los Angeles Review of Books, Rhizome, The Guardian, WIRED, and Quartz, among others, and speaks internationally about women, technology, and culture. She is a graduate advisor in Art Center College of Design’s Media Design Practices MFA program and the founder and editor-in-chief of the Los Angeles culture app 5 Every Day. She is a founding member of the cyberfeminist collective Deep Lab.
